Summary:
CUSD 200 has a blended staffing pattern as it relates to operating and maintaining our facilities. CUSD 200 is contracted with ABM Industries for custodial services throughout the District, while all building leads (WN, WWS and Hubble) and maintenance staff (high schools and district wide) are employees of CUSD 200. Currently, Hubble Middle School is the only middle school that has a District-based Head Custodian position during the day (the three other middle schools have daytime custodians through ABM, but not a Head Custodian). We are proposing the posting of three (one per middle school not named Hubble) middle school District-based Head Custodian positions with a start date of July 1, 2024 for the following reasons: 1. These new positions will bring unity to our custodial staffing structure in our middle schools and provide each middle school with a supervisor leader during the school day. 2. These new positions will bring greater local control to each building as it relates to work orders, maintenance and other needs as we will have a lead on campus to manage and maintain the facility daily. Currently, all work orders and maintenance needs are managed by our district wide 200 maintenance employees. 3. These new positions will be able to serve as the "lead" onsite district representative for all future capital projects, whether minor or major in scope. 4. It is anticipated that we will be able to reduce our current staffing pattern with ABM by two (2) FTE's with the addition of these positions. The two (2) FTE's reduction would come from removing four (4) part-time custodians from the current ABM staffing pattern. This would take our contract with ABM from 99 FTE's to 97 FTE's. 5. If there are internal candidates for these positions, the Business Office expects to review staffing patterns in the areas where the internal candidates currently reside to see if backfilling positions will be necessary. This review may allow for additional cost savings to help offset these new positions. |

Funding:
The total cost is TBD at this juncture, but the goal is to minimize any cost increase on a district level. Any increase in costs would be funded out of Fund 20 - our Operations and Maintenance Fund. |
