Subject: Approval of Zearn Math Subscription
Vision 2026:
Student Learning 1
Design curriculum and learning experiences that ensure high literacy and math skills while also developing creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Policy:
Background Elementary math has been an ongoing work project. This work has included developing a math block framework that was implemented this school year. Additionally, updating our instructional resource has been a priority. A districtwide pilot of Zearn was recommended due to the changing instructional landscape and the immediate need for a digital curricular resource based on the potential scenarios for the 2020-2021 school year. Zearn was the recommended resource because it provided all students with access to grade-level topics and allowed teachers the ability to address prerequisite skills within a digital platform.
File Attachment:
Summary: Zearn's is fully aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards and received the highest marks from Ed Reports, meaning it meets all criteria in alignment and usability. With a school license, all teachers can access the K-6 curriculum and assign specific lessons to support learning recovery needs or provide enrichment opportunities. Each Zearn lesson includes fluency warm-ups, whole group instruction, small group instruction, independent activities, and interactive video lessons. A school account provides student reports, class reports, unit assessments, professional learning, and assigning students specific lessons.

It is recommended that we continue our pilot of the Zearn instructional resource for the 2021-22 school year. The math committee has recommended exploring additional resources to pilot before a final recommendation is made to the Board of Education for adoption. All staff has the opportunity to provide feedback before a recommended curriculum adoption would be presented to the Board of Education. The cost per school for a one-year subscription is $2,500. The district is recommending a purchase of 13 school licenses for $32,500.
Funding: Funding has been allocated in ESSER II. The total cost is based on the quote from Zearn for $32,500.
