Subject: Approval to Post Revised Policy 2:260 Uniform Grievance Procedure for Public Review and Comment
Vision 2026:
Policy:
Background The HR/Policy Committee met on August 31st. One of the items discussed at the meeting was Board Policy 2:260, Uniform Grievance Procedure. The Uniform Grievance Procedure is one of the processes that can be accessed by students, parents/guardians, employees or community members if he or she believes that the Board of Education, its employees, or its agents have violated his or her rights guaranteed by the State or Federal Constitution, State or federal statute, Board Policy, or a list of rights identified in the language of the policy. In circumstances where concerns are not able to be resolved through direct conversation, the Uniform Grievance Procedure provides a very specific process and timeline for investigating and addressing the specific concerns. In reviewing the policy, the Policy Committee and administration identified a need to ensure that the policy is clearly identified as an option for addressing unresolved concerns, but also identified a need to ensure there is a clear understanding of when the Uniform Grievance Process has been initiated. This is important given the specific timelines included in the procedure, the process for rendering a decision, and process for appeal.
The proposed adjustment to this policy now requires that the Complaint Manager request the Complainant to provide a written statement regarding the nature of the complaint, or require a meeting with the student’s’ parent or guardian to ensure there is a clear understanding that the Uniform Grievance Procedure has been initiated. A copy of the Uniform Grievance Form has also been attached and will be linked in any electronic formats where the written statement is referenced.
