Summary:
|
The CUSD 200 high school leadership team spent time reviewing the current graduation requirements outlined in Board Policy 6:300. A revision is recommended because the current requirements weren't created with Career Pathways in mind. The administrative team feels a the proposed policy revision will provide students more flexibility and choice in course selection. The total required credits (24) does not change with the proposed policy update. The changes include: 1) Reducing the English credits from 4.5 to 4.0 by removing speech as a requirement 2) Eliminating the 1.0 Technology requirement 3) Eliminating the 1.0 Arts requirement4) Increasing the Other Courses from 4.0 credit(s) to 6.5 credit(s) but requiring 1.5 credit(s) from art, music, world languages, applied tech, or speech. The administrative team also recognizes that in 2028 ISBE will require students to earn 2.0 credit(s) for world languages. This will result in an adjustment to the policy in the future if the requirements holds. It is recommended that these graduation requirements begin with the Class of 2025. The revised graduation requirements were on public display since the November Board of Education meeting and there has been no community feedback shared with the administration.
