Policy:
Background The administration identified and prioritized paving/concrete rehabilitation projects at Hawthorne Elementary, Johnson Elementary and Sandburg Elementary schools. These projects are included in the 10-Year Life Safety plan for Johnson Elementary, the District's capital plan and were reviewed and recommended by the Facilities Committee. Bids were structured to include a Base Bid and Alternate #1 (additional concrete work at Johnson).

Summary: The bid opening was held on November 30, 2023. Ten (10) contractors picked up the bid package and six (6) responded. The Base Bid is for work at all three schools and Alternate #1 of for additional concrete work at Johnson Elementary. Attached is a letter from Legat Architects recommending Abbey Paving & Sealcoating as the lowest responsible bidder for the aggregate Base Bid and Alternate #1. The total bid submission is $814,085. A copy of the recommendation letter from Legat Architects and the Summer 2024 Capital Project list summarizing all 2024 projects is attached.
Funding: O & M Capital Renewal Fund and Capital Projects Fund
Board Policy
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Education award the Base Bid and Alternate #1 for concrete/paving work at Hawthorne Elementary, Johnson Elementary and Sandburg Elementary, to Abbey Paving Co., Inc. of Aurora, Illinois in the amount of $814,085.
